FLOOD WATCH for central Washington today

flood watchThe National Weather Service has posted a FLOOD WATCH till 9 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are developing over the mountains of Chelan and Okanogan counties; many of these storms will be slow moving or stationary. Persistent thunderstorms over or near wildfire burn scars and steep sparsely vegetated slopes could produce flash floods and debris flows this afternoon and evening.

Rainfall may lead to flash flooding or debris flows, both of which can be very dangerous. Persons in the flood watch area should be alert to changing weather conditions and monitor NOAA weather radio or other weather information sources. Be prepared to leave the area on short notice if heavy rainfall occurs.
